🇨🇦 Your Summary will make or break your resume
We cannot stress enough how important a professional summary is.
(template below)
What is a professional summary?
It’s the very first section of your resume or your “About Me” section on your LinkedIn. Your professional summary describers the essence of your background in 2-3 sentences. Do not underestimate the power of your profile summary: when done right, it can be enough to land your next interview.
Your resume is a long list of your experiences, and ideally, highlights accomplishments, not just responsibilities. Most applicants have similar tasks, but what sets you apart is how well you performed and how well you talk about it!
Achievements can also be the hardest thing to come up with. If you're struggling to identify and share your accomplishments, read on!
We’re prepared a set of questions to guide you:.
Work Accomplishments:
What sets you apart in how you do your work?
What did you receive praise from your current boss on the most?
Have you consistently met or exceeded quotas and goals in your current position?
Were you specifically hired to tackle a particular challenge for the company?
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Have you introduced new processes or procedures that improved certain company metrics?
Educational Accomplishments:
What workshops, conferences, seminars, or courses have you attended?
Have you achieved any new certifications or acquired new skills that enhance your expertise?
Have you attended any conferences?
Do you have any new skills? (AI, green energy, etc)
Soft Skills:
How have you demonstrated exceptional planning, conflict management, communication, and digital proficiency skills?
How have you coordinated and lead teams?
How have you showcased your leadership skills?
Recognition:
Have you received any honors, awards, or certifications recently?
Which of your contributions received the most recognition?
Have you received praise from customers or your boss in the form of notes, emails, or kudos?
Communication accomplishments matter:
Have you delivered public speeches or presentations?
If so, who was your audience, what was the topic, and how many people attended?
Have you authored any articles, white papers, or other public documents?
Leadership:
Have you assumed leadership roles within your job or volunteer work?
Have you led any significant projects that demonstrate your ability to take charge and deliver results?
Remember, your resume is not just a list of tasks you've done.
Each accomplishment statement conveys to employers how you made a tangible impact in your previous work.
By emphasizing your past performance by using these facilitating questions, you provide a strong indicator of what you can bring to the table in the future.
Remember, your professional summary picks on the 2-3 items you’re most proud of and highlights your biggest achievements that are also relevant to the job you’re applying to.
SUMMARY TEMPLATE:
[Your Title] with [Years of Experience] years of experience in [INDUSTRY/TYPE OF PROJECTS/PROBLEMS]. [Top quantified achievement 1] and [Top quantified or qualified achievement 2]. Skilled in [Skill 1], [Skill 2], and [Skill 3]. Known for [Unique Value or Strength].
Example:

I help CEOs build roadmaps to launch products, develop a GTM strategy to find a product-market fit, and build top-performing product teams in B2B SaaS space.
